Have you ever dreamed of being your favorite Disney character? I know I have, many times. In fact, I believe that most Disney fans dream of being their favorite Disney character every once in a while. After reading this article, you can learn how to make your dream of being your favorite Disney character come true!
You can become your favorite Disney character by DisneyBounding, or creating outfits inspired by the character of your choice. Disneybounding is simply the act of selecting a Disney character that you would like to be and creating an outfit to look like them. This is done by selecting clothing that is similar in color to the character you would like to be as well as accessories that resemble the character.
Creation of DisneyBounding
DisneyBounding was created by Leslie Kay. As stated by Kay, she invented DisneyBounding as “a way for teenagers and adults to show their love and appreciation for Disney and play dress up without actually wearing a costume.”
She also commented that DisneyBounding “takes trendy clothes and bases the outfits after Disney characters.” She wanted DisneyBounding “to be inspiration for” individuals “to pull together your own outfits which work for your body and wallet.”
History of Disneybounding
As with any invention, DisneyBounding took a while to become popular. However, it has since become very popular in the parks. Even celebrities can be spotted with DisneyBounds! As shown in the image below Charli XCX bounded as Marie at the Grammys.

Individuals that partake in DisneyBounding create outfits based on many Disney related topics, not just characters. While DisneyBounding is mostly about creating an outfit to look like the Disney character you want to be, it has now expanded to cover more than just characters. Sometimes individuals now dress as their favorite food items, such as dole whip, or even attractions, such as the Haunted Mansion. (If these themes interest you, you should definitely check out the Dress Shop next time you visit Disney Springs!)
Over the years, since Disneybounding was first invented, it has gained a large following, and like many fan-creations even Disney has caught on.
Benefits of Disneybounding
Disney has very specific rules about who can dress up in the parks. The Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland do not allow anyone over the age of 14 to wear costumes to the parks. With DisneyBounding however anyone can portray their favorite characters in the parks.
DisneyBounding is also useful when attending Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party. Who does not want to be their favorite Disney character, ride or food while trick or treating in the Magic Kingdom? Also, while bounding, fans often attempt to find the character they are dressed as in order to take a picture with them.

Tips on How to Create the Perfect Disneybound
Leslie Kay, the creator of Disneybounding, has some really great tips on how to create the perfect Disneybound. Here are some of her tips:
- It is easiest to not pick a specific character but go to the mall and look for something the characters would wear. Look through clothes and accessories and find something that inspires you and start building it from there. It is more stressful to try to find all of the exact pieces to make a specific character work.
- Start off by looking in your closet first (before buying new clothes to bound). Then, go to the mall to somewhere like “Forever 21,” which is super cheap, and try and complete the outfit on a budget.
- For Disney animals, Leslie recommends, that since Disney animals have stomach fur that’s a different color and paws that are different colors, cardigans are helpful. A shirt will match the color of the stomach fur and the cardigan will be the color of the rest of their body.
In addition to these tips Leslie posts images of DisneyBound ideas to inspire you to create your own bounding on her website http://disneybound.co/. She also accepts requests for characters on her website. This is helpful if you need inspiration on how to bound as your favorite characters.

With DisneyBounding, it is possible for any individual to jump into the shoes (literally) of their favorite Disney characters. Thanks to Leslie Kay, anyone can become their favorite Disney character by simply channeling their inner fashionista skills.
