Must-Do Attractions for Walt Disney World Newbies: Part 2

I bet you’ve been anxiously waiting for the second part of the list of attractions everyone should experience at Walt Disney World, haven’t you? Well, wait no longer—here it is! I recently spoke with 7 other girls who either had never been to these parks or had not visited since they were very young, and we were able to create a list of attractions that everyone should experience at least once in their time at Walt Disney World. Here is the second portion of that list, and hopefully this compilation will help you when you’re creating your game plan for your vacation.

Toy Story Midway Mania

If you decide to go to Disney’s Hollywood Studios at the beginning of the day, you may see large crowds walking quickly toward a specific area of the park. Curious about why they’re in such a hurry? They’re headed to “Toy Story Midway Mania,” one of Walt Disney World’s most interactive attractions.

As you enter, you are shrunk down to the size of a toy and are welcomed to participate in a round of the arcade games. You must use your shooter to throw pies, toss rings, pop balloons, and all sorts of other fun, 4D experiences. Try to beat the rest of the players in your vehicle, and see if you can become the top scorer of the day! This attraction fills up fast, so book a FastPass as soon as you can!

Pirates of the Caribbean

Have you ever dreamed of seeing what life was like during days when swashbucklers on the seven seas got up to all kinds of mischief? You’re able to do just that at “Pirates of the Caribbean.” Appropriately located in Adventureland in Magic Kingdom, this attraction shows you exactly what would happen when pirates took over a town on the coast.

From ransacking houses and stores to chugging the ever-popular rum and jovially singing drinking songs, you have the opportunity to see what kinds of silly antics pirates would get up to back in their day. You can even glimpse Captain Jack Sparrow throughout the attraction, trying to figure out the sneakiest way to capture all of the treasure for himself. If you’re looking for a rousing good time—and a catchy little song that gets stuck in your head—then head on over to this attraction!

Spaceship Earth

Although this attraction is not the only one housed in a park icon, it is the only one where you have the opportunity to climb deep inside of the icon itself. “Spaceship Earth,” located in the giant silver ball towering over EPCOT, is a slow, Omnimover-style ride that takes you on a journey through the history of communication on Earth. It starts at the very beginning of human civilization, and takes you through important events such as the construction of paper and the alphabet, the Renaissance, and the creation of the computer.

You also have the opportunity to design your own technologically-charged future! This attraction is great if you’ve been sweating it out in the park all day and want a chance to sit down and relax in the air conditioning. It is also incredibly informative and there are so many fascinating things to look at, so it is perfect for Guests of all ages.

Kilimanjaro Safaris

If you’ve always dreamed of traveling to Africa and seeing all kinds of fascinating creatures, make sure you make a stop at “Kilimanjaro Safaris.” This attraction takes you on a “2-week-long” safari in a large vehicle around the Harambe Wildlife Reserve. Your tour guide drives you through different types of terrain, where you see dozens of different types of animals ranging from elephants to lions to crocodiles to warthogs and everything in between!

This attraction is best to ride first thing in the morning, as it’s not blazing hot yet and the animals are typically more active. Once in a while, you might even have the opportunity to see them fed! This attraction is great to go on multiple times as well, as it’s a little different every time. Just come into it patient, however, because you never know when an animal will cross the road and you’ll have to wait for it to move!
