10 Steps to Dealing with Heat & Humidity at Disney Parks

by Brittany DiCologero

Unless you’re planning on taking a vacation in the winter, a trip to Walt Disney World is probably going to come with a large dose of heat and humidity. If you’re not used to this kind of weather, the air is going to feel heavy, and you’re going to quickly realize why everyone in Florida loves the air conditioning so much. It doesn’t have to be such a downside of a summer trip however, as there are plenty of ways to combat the warm weather while touring the parks:

Step 1: Come to terms with the fact that you’re going to Florida, and it’s going to be hot and humid.

Step 2: Decide on a cooler time of year to go to Disney, or understand that you have no choice but to deal with with heat and humidity.

Step 3: Remember to pack hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen. Then remember to re-apply your sunscreen throughout the day while you’re in the parks.

Step 4: Stay hydrated. We recommend getting cups of water for free from quick service restaurants. Buying bottled water in the parks is a waste of money, and carrying re-usable bottles with you is annoying.

Step 5: Spend the middle of the day (ie: the hottest part of the day) in the pool or in air conditioned attractions.

Step 6: Do not rush. Rushing around the parks will make you work up a sweat. You do not need anymore sweat in this kind of weather.

Step 7: Accept your appearance, and understand that you do not look any worse than any other guest in the park. Everyone is sweaty, and everyone with hair over an inch long basically looks like the “before” part of a Garnier commercial. There is nothing you can do to help your appearance and that’s okay. But please still wear deodorant. Just because we can all see how warm you are, we do not need to smell it.

Step 8: Wear lightweight and light colored clothing. Wearing black in the sun is going to leave you regretting your fashion choices, and lightweight clothing is important to stay cool.

Step 9: Choose makeup wisely. If it’s hot enough, your mascara might melt. I’m speaking from experience. If the temperature is nearing the high 90’s, choose your makeup carefully.

Step 10: Have fun! A humid, muggy day at a Disney park is better than a comfortable day at home. 🙂
